MSME: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are pivotal contributors to India's economic growth and development. Established under the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act of 2006, MSMEs operate under the guidance of the Ministry of MSMEs, Government of India.

MSMEs are categorized based on specific turnover criteria and are primarily involved in the manufacturing, processing, production, or preservation of goods and commodities. These enterprises are integral to fostering socioeconomic progress by generating employment, encouraging innovation, and contributing significantly to the nation’s GDP.

Types of MSME

The Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act 2006 classifies MSMEs into two categories:

1. Manufacturing Enterprises

These enterprises focus on the production of goods as defined under Schedule I of the Industries (Development and Regulation) Act, 1951. Additionally, businesses that enhance the value of finished products by utilizing machinery or plants also fall within this category.

2. Service Enterprises

Enterprises engaged in providing services, as outlined in the MSMED Act, are classified as service enterprises under MSMEs. However, it is important to note that individual service providers are not included in this classification.

Key Features of MSME
Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME) play a vital role in fostering economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for individuals associated with these enterprises. Here are some notable features of MSME:
